FINAL PERFORMANCES IN THE PATTERN ENERGY “CONCERTS FOR THE KIDS!” SERIES

The final two shows in the year-long Pattern Energy “Concerts for the Kids!” tribute series are coming this weekend, during RetroFest, in downtown Chatham at the Capitol Theatre.  Sponsored by the Chatham ownership group of Tim Hortons, “Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Experience” and “The Fab Four: A Tribute to The Beatles“, will hit the stage in all-live performances paying homage to these great classic rock acts.  Proceeds from the Springsteen tribute will be shared with the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centre’s Rebound Choices Program and from the Beatles tribute will be shared with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent.

Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Experience

While “The Boss” can be never duplicated, this unique six-piece ensemble, “Glory Days”, is a bang-on tribute to the American musical icon Bruce Springsteen, one of the greatest rock singer-songwriters of our era. The band’s lineup is exclusively composed of experienced concert musicians able to recreate live the classic songs and performances that were, and still are, Springsteen’s trademark.  But Glory Days is not content to just play the songs, with a look-alike front man, they manage to build an authentic arena rock-show experience by adding the little details that put Springsteen concerts in a category all their own.

The Fab Four: A Tribute to The Beatles

What can be said or written about the four young lads from Liverpool that hasn’t already been said or written.  Paul, John, George and Ringo changed music and in doing so changed the world forever.  The classic albums and the massive hits caused hysteria on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean before personalities and changing priorities caused the band to disintegrate much, much too soon.  Performing as a unit for several years, The Fab Four are Canada’s best-known Beatles tribute show.  These four experienced musicians capture the sound and the mannerisms of The Beatles’ live shows making their performance a blast from the past that no Beatles fan or fanatic should miss.

For the fourth straight year, the employees of Mike and Paula Grail’s Tim Hortons outlets in Chatham, Wallaceburg and Dresden have demonstrated their charitable leadership by donating, through payroll deduction, to the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation’s “Children’s Chrysalis Endowment Fund”, a fund established a few years ago to generate resources to ensure the long-term stability of programs offered at the Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent.  Many employees give because they themselves have had children who utilized the services provided by the Centre’s capable therapists.  The Grails match their employees donations and presented, along with employee reps Bobbie-Jo and Brenda, a cheque for $10,000 on April 30 to Donna Litwin-Makey, the Centre’s executive director, and Art Stirling, the Foundation’s executive director.   Our Tim Hortons friends are the best!  Thanks.

S.S. FESTIVAL SET SAIL SOLD OUT

More than 1,000 people filled the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Saturday, April 14, for the 11th annual Chatham-Kent Festival of Giving.  Though it shared a date with the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the great ocean liner Titanic, the S.S. Festival enjoyed calm seas and fair breezes raising just over $300,000 for the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent and the numerous food banks across the community operated by Outreach for Hunger (Chatham), the Salvation Army (Chatham, Wallaceburg, Blenheim, Ridgetown) and the United Way of Chatham-Kent (Tilbury).  This year smaller food banks in Wheatley and Dresden will be offered support as well.  Live entertainment on the main stage and at our ports of call included a Neil Diamond tribute act, a Jimmy Buffett tribute act, a mariachi band, duelling pianists, The O’Hara Brothers Band and more. Thanks to our over 200 volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly.

FUNDS EARMARKED FOR ACCESSIBLE THERAPY PLAYGROUND

We are pleased to announce that International Power Canada is donating $2,500 toward the Foundation’s $125,000 “Child’s Play” campaign.  The campaign is raising funds to create Chatham-Kent’s first fully accessible therapy playground, designed by therapists here at the Children’s Treatment Centre for use in our clients’ therapy plans.  Tim Sullivan, Field Operations Manager with the company recently visited the Centre and heard firsthand the excitement surrounding this initiative.  International Power Canada, is constructing two 55-turbine wind farms in Chatham-Kent, on in the Mitchell’s Bay area and one in the Erieau area.

CENTRE PARTNERS WITH PUBLIC HEALTH UNIT

The physiotherapy team here at the Centre has been collaborating with staff at the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit to develop a Best Start … Best Future “Back to Sleep, Tummy to Play” communications campaign which is launching in mid-March.  Five billboards will be seen around the community, plus brochures and other items, to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of having infants sleep on their backs and providing supervised tummy time during the day.  Among the benefits of tummy time are that it decreases the chance of a baby developing a flat spot on their head; it strengthens baby’s neck, back and arm muscles; it encourages baby to reach for objects which develops hand-eye coordination; and it provides visual stimulation.
